How Much Does a GP Telehealth Consult Cost?

In the digital era, telehealth is fast becoming the most convenient way to obtain medical consultations. As a result, more people can access quality healthcare services without physically travelling to a medical facility.

In this article, you will find out everything you need to know about the cost of your telehealth consultation with one of our experienced Private Medical general practitioners..

We will discuss the price per appointment, cancellation policies, and whether Australian Medicare covers your consultation.

How much does a Private Medical telehealth appointment cost?

Find a simple overview of each appointment and its cost, as shown in our Schedule of Fees. Each consultation entitles you to  consult a fully qualified doctor via a video call or over-the-phone.

Standard Telehealth Consultation

The cost of a standard telehealth consultation is AUD $65 for up to 15 minutes.

✗ This consultation is privately billed. A Medicare rebate is typically not available; however, some exceptions apply.

What is  included in the price?

● A review of your medical history and presenting problem.

● Discussion of symptoms and signs.

● Advising on diagnosis and management.

● Ordering tests and investigations.

● Prescribing medication (including COVID-19 antivirals)

● Facilitating referrals to other practitioners, providing any certificates and arranging follow-up appointments.

Long Telehealth Consultation

The cost of a long telehealth consultation is AUD $130 for up to 30 minutes.

✗ This consultation is privately billed. A Medicare rebate is typically not available; however, some exceptions apply. What is  included in the price?

● This consultation provides more time with the doctor to review and advise on your medical needs.

● Reviewing your medical history and presenting problem.

● Discussion of symptoms and signs.

● Advising on diagnosis and management, ordering tests and investigations.

● Prescribing medication and facilitating referrals to other practitioners.

● Providing any certificates and arranging follow-up appointments.

Mental Health Consultation

The cost of a Mental Health Consultation is AUD $130 for up to 30 minutes.

✓ Medicare rebates are available for this consultation.

What is included in the price?

● Making a mental health assessment.

● Creating a mental health treatment plan.

● Referring you to a psychiatrist or other mental health professional.

● Ordering appropriate tests, as required.

COVID-19 Antiviral Consultation

The cost of a COVID-19 Antiviral Consultation is AUD $105 for up to 20 minutes.

✓ Medicare rebates are available for this consultation.

What is included in the price?

● A review of your medical history and presenting problem.

● Discussion of symptoms and signs.

● Advising on diagnosis and management.

● If you test positive for COVID-19, you may be eligible for specific antiviral treatments prescribed by a healthcare provider.

What forms of payment does Private Medical accept?

At Private Medical, telehealth consultations are paid for at the time of booking.

We accept credit card or debit card payments for our appointments.

After each consultation, you will receive a receipt for our services for your records. If eligible, you can use this to make Australian Medicare and Pharmaceutical Benefits claims.

Does Medicare cover our GP telehealth consultations?

As previously mentioned, payment will be required before your telehealth consultation. However, if you are eligible for a Medicare rebate, you can claim reimbursementafter the consultation.

We currently offer Medicare rebates on our mental health consultations and COVID-19 antiviral consultations.

Standard and long telehealth consultations do not include Medicare rebates. However, exceptions apply for the following groups:

● People who require GP advice on Mental Health Care Plans, smoking cessation, and some reproductive health enquiries.

● Anyone who is affected by COVID isolation orders.

● Anyone who needs to be assessed for COVID antiviral medication.

● Babies under 12 months of age.

● People experiencing homelessness.

Prescriptions

Additionally, if you intend to have prescriptions sent via SMS or email, please enter your Australian Medicare number when registering.

If you don’t want to provide your Medicare card number, we can send the script via email to your local chemist. Unfortunately, this will inhibit you from accessing the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) medication subsidies.

Consultation Cancellation Policy

You can cancel or reschedule your appointment up to 24 hours before your telehealth appointment.

If you don’t notify us of changes at this time, you will be charged a missed appointment fee.

To cancel or change the date or time of your booking, call us on 135 001 or email us at admin@privatemedical.net.
